Planning a Cooper-Sponsored Event? You Need Insurance

Many special functions sponsored by Cooper University Health Care or its subsidiaries, require separate special event insurance to properly protect Cooper and insure the scheduled event.

Special event insurance is an insurance policy designed to provide broad protection for situations in which an event holder must defend itself against lawsuits or pay damages for bodily injury or property damage to third parties. For example, slips and falls by patrons of our events are covered by this type of policy.

When requesting insurance for a special event, the following information is required:  name of the event, date, time, and location including full address, number of attendees, parking accommodations including valet parking, and whether alcoholic beverages will be served.

If the event will be serving alcoholic beverages, an alcohol rider is also required to provide liability insurance coverage for bodily injury or property damage for which you may be held liable by reason of: causing or contributing to the intoxication of any person; or violating any statute, ordinance, or regulation relating to distribution or use of alcoholic beverages.

Special event general liability coverage may be obtained by completing the Special Events Certificate Request Form and submitting to the Risk Management and Insurance Department at least four (4) weeks prior to your scheduled event. This will allow for purchase of the coverage in time for your scheduled event.

Once the certificate of insurance is issued, the certificate will be sent to the sponsoring department prior to the date of your event.

In addition, if a vendor is providing services at a special event, you must provide a certificate of the vendor’s insurance to Risk Management prior to the scheduled event.

The Special Events Certificate of Insurance Request Form is on the Pulse in the Risk Management and Insurance folder. Click here for quick access to the folder.
