National Nurses Week 2022

In recognition of National Nurses Week, to take place May 6 through May 12 this year, Cooper University Health Care honors the committed, compassionate nurses who provide expert care to our patients and their families. Your dedication and hard work are crucial in supporting the health of our community and the patients you care for.

The American Nurses Association theme for this year’s Nurses Week is Nurses Make a Difference. In keeping with this theme, Kathy Devine, DrNP, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive, has provided a special message recognizing the hard work and dedication of Cooper’s nurses:

“The American Nursing Association has chosen the theme Nurses Make a Difference as we celebrate national nurse’s week this May. While nurses have historically been recognized for their promotion of health and wellness of individuals, families, and communities, the COVID-19 pandemic has furthered the value and significance of nurses in influencing outcomes in a widespread public health emergency. Nurses responded in many ways; for example, they were present at the bedside of the acutely ill, administered vaccines in community settings, served as advisors for public policy, and led hospitals’ incident command teams. Through resiliency, innovation, and professional commitment, nurses have and will continue to support the needs of individuals and communities.

“We are exceptionally proud of our Cooper nurses, and excited to recognize their integral roles across our health system and continuum of care.  May 6 is National Nurses Day, and kicks off the official week of celebration and activities. As we celebrate Nurses Week, let’s be grateful for the opportunity to practice the art and science of nursing, and to be part of a larger professional community that is so trusted and respected.

“Wishing all a very special Nurses Week!”

As part of Cooper’s Nurses Week celebrations, this Friday, May 6, 2022, from noon to 1 p.m, Rich Bluni, RN, will provide a keynote speech via Webex. Invitations to this event will be provided to nurses via their clinical leadership team.

Cooper nurses are also invited to attend the Shared Governance Council Open House on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 4 p.m. in CC121.

The event will give nurses the chance to recognize and celebrate the many accomplishments since Cooper’s 2020 shared governance redevelopment. This is an opportunity for those who would like to become more active in supporting shared decision making at Cooper through participation in the Share Governance Council. The event will include a Professional Ladder information booth so that Cooper nurses can see how their feedback and recommendations were incorporated into the new Professional Ladder application process. Nurses will also have the opportunity to complete the Pathway to Excellence nursing survey while at the event. There will also be plenty of fun activities, raffles, and giveaways.
