Cooper Shines a Light on Life: Celebrate National Donate Life Month

April is National Donate Life Month. It’s a time to raise awareness about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation and to encourage people to register as donors.

According to the NJ Sharing Network, the federally designated organization focused on saving and enhancing lives through the recovery of donated organs and tissue in the Garden State, Cooper University Health Care had the highest number of organ donors (28) of any of NJ Sharing Network’s partner hospitals in 2023.

Cooper’s Donor Council is staffed with multidisciplinary team of representatives from Trauma, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Child Life, Pastoral Care, Risk Management, and others, who meet regularly with NJ Sharing Network to review cases and establish best practices in organ donation. The team understands that organ donation is lifesaving for the recipient, and it can also bring healing and closure for donor families. Cooper team members along with families and friends of organ donors participate in flag raisings and honor walks that pay homage to the donor and their families.

Many thanks to the Cooper team who provide comfort to the families and friends who have lost their loved ones by supporting the wishes of the donor and bringing hope to recipient families.
