Harish Kakkilaya, MD, FACS, FASMBS, has joined Cooper University Health Care’s Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center, a multidisciplinary program to help people with obesity or morbid obesity achieve and maintain their weight-loss goals and improve their health.
“Dr. Kakkilaya is a fellowship-trained bariatric and metabolic surgeon who has performed more than 1,000 weight-loss surgeries with excellent outcomes,” said Rohit A. Patel, MD, FACS, director of Cooper’s program. “We are excited to have him join our team as we provide the highest level of care to our patients.”
A graduate of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, Kamataka, India and University of Bombay, Bombay, India, Dr. Kakkilaya residencies in surgery at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, New York, NY, and Mercy Catholic Medial Center- Fitzgerald Division, Darby, Pa. He completed a Fellowship in minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
In addition to weight loss, bariatric surgery can also help treat obesity-related health conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. In addition to surgery, Cooper’s program offers nutritional counseling, exercise counseling, and group and individual support session following surgery. Cooper’s Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center meets rigorous criteria for safe, high-quality surgical care. As a result, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program has named Cooper as an MBSAQIP Accredited – Comprehensive with Adolescent Qualifications Center.
