Cooper Doctor Speaks to Faith-Based Group

Cooper University Health Care recently opened the first-of-its-kind neighborhood Vaccination and Education Center in East Camden at the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center. Cooper’s unique neighborhood Center has a strong education component to answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccine for City residents. As a part of its education effort, Cooper kicked-off a series of COVID-19 education and information sessions on Friday, February 26, 2021, with a virtual presentation from a Cooper physician to Camden ministers and faith leaders. Celebrating National Hospitalist Day

Today, Cooper is honoring our hospitalists during National Hospitalist Day. Hospitalists are doctors whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. They provide care to patients throughout their stay in the hospital, as well as education to students and residents, and leadership activities related to hospital medicine.

This past year, Cooper’s hospitalists partnered with other hospital-based groups as one of the lead specialties at the forefront of our COVID-19 response. Read more.

New study looks at impact of a patient’s socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic background on the empathy shown by healthcare professionals

Empathy from caregivers, according to research, is a vital element of health care quality. Studies have shown that caregiver empathy – as perceived by patients – is associated with improved outcomes for patients, lower health care costs, and even less burnout among health care providers. A Doctor’s Stories: Cooper University Health Care Doctor Reflects on Career in New Book

Following a serious illness, John McGeehan, MD, a primary care Internist at Cooper University Health Care and professor of clinical medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, set out to write a collection of short stories highlighting moments and insights from his more than 40 years in medicine as a means to aid in his recovery. What resulted is a compelling look at life and health care in a new book, A Doctor’s Stories, published on February 26, 2021. Read more.

Minority-Focused Cancer Support Group, Sister Will You Help Me, Approaches Milestone

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper is proud to offer a variety of support groups that help guide survivors through their cancer treatment and beyond. This fall, one of those groups – Sister Will You Help Me – will celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Sister Will You Help Me is a cancer support group for women of color and faith – one of the few minority-focused cancer support groups in the South Jersey region. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care Opens First Neighborhood COVID-19 Vaccination and Education Center in the Cramer Hill Section of Camden

Cooper University Health Care will open the first neighborhood-based COVID-19 Vaccination and Education Center at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center in Camden. The Cramer Hill site will be open for vaccination appointments for Camden residents beginning Saturday, February 20, 2021. The Cramer Hill and East Camden section makes up 38% of Camden’s population, but accounts for 44% of COVID-19 cases in the City. Read more.

Philadelphia Academy of Surgery Annual Surgical Trainee Paper Competition Recognizes Three Cooper Surgical Residents

The Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, the nation’s oldest surgical society, recognized the work of residents earlier this month at the Annual Surgical Trainee Paper Competition. Medical schools and residencies throughout the region participated in the competition, which was attended by approximately 100 academic surgeons and surgical chairs and deans.

Cooper was well represented at the competition, with three surgical residents invited to present papers. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care Receives Re-Accreditation from the Urgent Care Association of America

Cooper University Health Care, which operates three urgent care centers in the South Jersey region, has received a re-accreditation designation from the Urgent Care Association of America. Cooper first received this accreditation in 2018. It is the highest level of distinction for urgent care centers in the nation.

The accreditation certifies that Cooper – with centers located in Cherry Hill, Audubon, and Cinnaminson, NJ – has met all of the Urgent Care Association of America’s established standards and criteria for quality of patient care, safety, and scope of services. Read more.
