On February 3, we join our colleagues across the country in celebrating National Women Physicians Day, which is the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States in 1849. Cooper Trauma Team Recognized for Life-Saving Care of Camden County Officers

Members of the Cooper Trauma team were recognized for saving the lives of two Camden County Police Department officers in 2018 during a ceremony held to honor those officers on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Cooper Trauma Team Saving More Lives Working in Collaboration with Police and Shotspotter Technology

Every day the highly skilled, dedicated staff of Cooper University Health Care’s Level I Trauma Center save the lives of the trauma victims from all over southern New Jersey. Working in conjunction with Camden County Metro Police, Cooper’s Trauma Team is saving even more lives utilizing the city’s Shotspotter technology to identify and get victims of violence to the hospital sooner. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy Announces New Initiatives, Centers of Excellence in the Fight Against the NJ Opioid Epidemic

On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced the commitment of his administration to a patient-centered, evidence-based approach to tackle the opioid epidemic that took the lives of 3,163 New Jerseyans in 2018 alone.

The programs and initiatives described during the event, hosted by Cooper University Health Care, included programs to increase access to evidence-based prevention and treatment in the community, supporting individuals in recovery, improving data-systems and infrastructure systems for addiction services, and stemming the supply of illicit drugs through law enforcement. New Jersey’s First Lady Tammy Murphy Launches Nurture NJ Initiative at Cooper

 

On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, New Jersey’s First Lady, Tammy Murphy, announced the launch of the state-wide Nurture NJ campaign, coinciding with Maternal Health Awareness Day at an event held at Cooper University Health Care. (The archived stream of this event can be found on YouTube.)

Cooper University Health Care First Hospital Site in the Nation to Host Training Program for Elite U.S. Army Forward Resuscitation Surgical Team

Cooper University Health Care recently entered into an agreement with the United States Army to provide advanced surgical trauma training to the U.S. Army’s elite Forward Resuscitation Surgical Team (FRST). Cooper is the first trauma center in the nation to begin providing this training.

Cooper University Health Care, CMSRU to Establish New ENT Residency Program

One of only two in New Jersey

Cooper University Health Care and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University recently received approval to establish an Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) residency program from the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education). This highly specialized surgical training program is only the second of its kind in New Jersey. ENT residency training is in high demand and typically one of the most competitive residency programs nationally. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care First Hospital in Eastern U.S. to Treat Central Sleep Apnea With Newly Approved Device

A medical team at Cooper University Health Care recently was the first in the eastern United States to treat a patient with central sleep apnea (CSA) with a new implantable device to stimulate breathing. Cooper is currently one of only 24 sites in the United States treating CSA with the remedē® System, developed by medical technology company Respicardia, Inc. The remedē® System received FDA-approval in 2017 and is the first commercially available device to treat CSA. Read more.

Camden Institutions Partner to Research Genetic and Biological Factors to Fight Opioid Addiction
