Wissam Abouzgheib, MD, chief of pulmonary medicine at Cooper University Health Care, is participating in a clinical study investigating a new device treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with chronic bronchitis. Cooper is the 20^th site nationally participating in the study.

COPD is a long-term, progressive, irreversible lung disease that, over time, makes it difficult to breathe. Chronic bronchitis (CB), the largest subset of COPD, is characterized by a chronic productive cough. Read more.

On June 9, the Interventional Pulmonary team at Cooper University Health Care performed its first three cases using the Ion Endoluminal System by Intuitive Surgical, a new minimally invasive platform that allows physicians to biopsy hard-to-reach lung tumors, potentially resulting in the earlier diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Cooper is the first health system in southern New Jersey to use this new system, which has advanced maneuverability and navigation through the narrow airways of the lung. Read more.

On April 23, 2022, Cooper Center for Healing and Addiction Medicine Fellowship team members participated in the Seeds of Hope Ministries Run for a Life in Camden. Together with other community members, the team covered the Wiggins Waterfront Park course to honor those lost, and to raise awareness for people struggling with substance dependence and substance use disorder.

Ritz, who works in Cooper’s Trauma Surgical ICU, also received the Award for Excellence in Trauma Nursing as part of Cooper’s Annual Nursing Excellence Awards presented during National Nurses’ Week (May 6-12). CAMDEN, NJ, April 29, 2022 – Today, several young patients being treated for sickle cell disease at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper received a cuddly new companion specially designed to help them through their medical journey.  A duck delivery and unboxing event celebrated the new collaboration between Cooper and Aflac to provide a My Special Aflac Duck free of charge to all pediatric sickle cell patients ages 3 and above who are undergoing treatment.
