Shenelle Alexander, an undergraduate nursing student at Rutgers University-Camden, was named as the first winner of the $1,000 Cooper Civic Leadership Award at the Seventh Annual Chancellor’s Awards for Civic Engagement held April 26, 2018.

This week, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper hosted Remembrance Events in Camden and Voorhees, for the family and loved ones of patients who passed in the last year. More than 50 attendees took part in the events that featured remarks, prayers and poems delivered by MD Anderson at Cooper physicians, social workers, chaplains and other staff members. MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper hosted a CME event for physicians and other health care providers at the DoubleTree Suites in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Approximately 100 attendees took part in the program, which focused on The Role of Cancer Genetics in Precision Medicine. Presentations included discussion on current approaches to genetic testing for hereditary cancer syndromes, potential benefits and limitations of the multigene panel testing approach for hereditary cancer syndromes, and the implications, risks, and benefits of genetic testing for the individual and their family. Warren R. Heymann, MD, head of the Division of Dermatology at Cooper University Health Care and professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, was recently awarded the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Medical Dermatology Society.
The honor is given in recognition of a lifetime of inspired patient care as a medical dermatologist, mentoring of future medical dermatologists, and research to advance medical dermatology. Read more.
Representatives from Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper visited St. Anthony of Padua School in Camden on Thursday, April 12, 2018, to accept several dozen handmade “heart hug” pillows crafted by sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students as part of a community outreach project. The pillows will be given to hospitalized children at Cooper.

More than 125 kindergartners from the KIPP Cooper Norcross Academy visited Cooper University Health Care on April 11, 2018, to take part in the annual “Teddy Goes to Cooper” event. The Teddy Goes to Cooper program was developed to help alleviate young children’s fears of visiting the hospital or the doctor while teaching them healthy habits. Each child received a teddy bear and rotated through different stations where Cooper physicians and other health care professionals diagnosed and treated the bear’s ailments using real tools and equipment.
