Polaris Health Directions Partners with MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper on Breast Cancer Pilot Project Using the Apple Watch

Behavioral health technology company Polaris Health Directions (Polaris) and MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper (MD Anderson Cooper) have signed a memorandum of understanding to partner on an integrated medical- behavioral health pilot project, using the Apple Watch to capture behavioral data that could affect the courses and outcomes of treatment for breast cancer patients.

Cooper OR Expansion to Begin in July

We are excited to announce that our multi-phased Operating Room Expansion project in the Kelemen Building will begin on July 1, 2015. Plans of the new facility, along with finish sample boards, will be posted on Kelemen 3rd floor on May 25, 2015. The project will incorporate many improvements for staff including expanded locker rooms, a larger lounge and a new resident lounge.  Read more.

Cardiologists at Cooper Become First in South Jersey, Philadelphia Region to Implant the WATCHMAN Device

Innovative Technology Reduces Stroke Risk, Alternative to Long-Term Medication Use

On May 11, 2015, a multidisciplinary team at the Cooper Heart Institute became the first in South Jersey and the Philadelphia region to implant the newly approved WatchmanTM Left Atrial Appendage Closure device, providing patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) an alternative to long-term “blood-thinning” warfarin medication. Cooper Names Trauma Step-Down Nurse as DAISY Award Winner

daisy2qCooper University Health Care has named Kristina Kelly, RN, of Riverside, NJ, as the most recent DAISY Award winner.

The DAISY Award, established by The DAISY Foundation, is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. It is presented in collaboration with the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Each quarter, Cooper will honor a nurse with The DAISY Award. Read more.

Special Delivery for Moms Who Won’t Be Home to Celebrate Mother’s Day

motherdayblog2On May 8, 2015, The Lauren Rose Albert Foundation/Mother’s Matter Program visited Cooper University Hospital to deliver more than 100 gift baskets to mothers, grandmothers and caregivers who are hospitalized or have a family member hospitalized and won’t be home for Mother’s Day.

Since Mother’s Day 2001, the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation has reached out to mothers-in- need by donating hundreds of gift baskets overflowing with personal health and beauty care products to various community organizations, charities and health care facilities during the week of Mother’s Day. Children’s Regional Hospital Stages Annual Health Fair for Camden Schoolchildren

asthmafairLed by the Pediatric Asthma Care Committee, more than 20 volunteers from around Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper put on the annual Asthma Care Health Fair for first and second graders from Veteran’s Elementary School in Camden.  The 85 students spent the morning learning about asthma signs, symptoms, and triggers.  Students also learned about smoking cessation, pedestrian and water safety, medication safety, healthy eating and exercise.  Read more.
