Celebrating Our Medical Laboratory Professionals

Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 18 to 24, 2021, is a time to recognize laboratorians who perform millions of diagnostic test procedures in hospitals and clinical laboratories. Did you know that 70% of medical decisions are based on laboratory results? As critical members of the health care team, laboratorians work behind the scenes to verify the accuracy of test results, and to deliver test results in a timely manner to health care providers who rely on these results to provide outstanding patient care. This has never been more crucial than during this past year as the laboratory team worked feverishly to bring up critical testing for the COVID-19 pandemic. And the challenge continues. As the virus evolves and immunization efforts progress, patients’ needs shift and the laboratory stands at the ready to support not only the Cooper clinicians, but also the state efforts to monitor the spread.

The Laboratory team at Cooper comprises 217 full-time and part-time staff serving as pathologists, cytogeneticists, technologists, technicians, managers, directors, phlebotomists, pathology assistants, transcriptionists, administrative coordinators, and laboratory assistants. Their commitment to high standards of quality benefits patients as well as their colleagues on the patient care team.

Congratulations to our Lab team – enjoy your week and thank you for all you do!
