Norcross III, announced today that The Cooper Foundation, even in the midst of a global pandemic, raised a record $1.8 million at its 10th Annual Red Hot Gala @ Home. Cooper Doctor Heads Mission to Establish Much Needed Pediatric ICUs in Nigeria

Odiraa Nwankwor, MD, MPH, a pediatric intensivist at Cooper University Health Care and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Cooper Medical School, is leading an initiative to help establish pediatric intensive units in Nigeria.

Dr. Nwankwor, a Nigerian native and the Founder of Health Place for Children Initiative, developed the “Nigeria Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) Project” as part of Cooper’s Global Health program to bring medical equipment, guidance, and hand-on training to hospitals throughout that country. CMSRU officially welcomes new medical students at pandemic-era White Coat Ceremony

Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) continued its annual tradition of welcoming new medical students into the profession of medicine during a special White Coat Ceremony, pandemic style.

The event brought 110 new students and a few speakers together in Rowan University’s large concert hall for the event where they could follow physical distancing recommendations, while parents, friends, loved ones, faculty and fellow students watched the event virtually. Read more.

Christopher J. Moore, BS, CMD, a Medical Dosimetrist at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, received the prestigious 2020 Radiation Therapy Empower Award presented by Beekley Medical, a Connecticut-based manufacturer of medical devices.

Beekley Medical established its Empower Award as a national initiative to recognize professionals in various cancer care disciplines for their efforts to improve care for patients and their families. Read more.

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper is pleased to announce that Kay Yoon-Flannery, DO, MPH, FACS, FACOS, will join its breast surgery team beginning in September, announced Generosa Grana, MD, director of MD Anderson at Cooper. On August 28, 2020, actor Chadwick Boseman died at the age of 43 from colon cancer. He had been diagnosed in 2016.

The great majority of colorectal cancer is found in people over 50, however, the incidence in younger people, such as Mr Boseman, has been steadily increasing over recent years, for unclear reasons, an alarming trend. Read more.

Subaru of America Donates Vehicle for Cooper University Health Care EMS Services

Subaru of America, Inc. has donated a new vehicle to Cooper University Health Care to expand its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fleet. The 2020 Subaru Ascent SUV will be used by Cooper Emergency Medical Services physicians in the community as back-up support for Cooper’s Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) units responding to 911 calls.
