Holidays With Our Cooper Team

Throughout the year and across South Jersey, our Cooper Team comes together to serve, heal, and educate our local families and communities. December was no different! Here are some photos from this month at Cooper.

As a reminder, the Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive runs through Dec. 31, 2019. Visit the Deptford Barnes & Noble at 1553 Almonesson Road to purchase a book that will be donated to their Holiday Book Drive for our pediatric patients. Read more.

Former Cooper CEO Adrienne Kirby Receives Special Achievement Award from HPMSNJ

On Friday, December 6, 2019, Adrienne Kirby, PhD, FACHE, was recognized by the Healthcare Planning and Marketing Society of New Jersey with a Special Achievement Award during the organization’s Annual Meeting. Dr. Kirby served as the CEO for Cooper University Health Care until 2019.

Across her career, she is has known to champion community health and the importance of service to the community.

#OurCommunity: Nutrition and Your Heart

On Wednesday, December 4, 2019, Cooper’s Community Health team partnered with the American Heart Association (AHA) to educate patients at Cooper Internal Medicine & Specialty Care at JFK offices in Willingboro, NJ.  The purpose of the outreach event was to improve the health and wellness of the community by educating patients on the importance of heart health through the reduction of cardiovascular risk factors.  Read more.

Cooper Physician Co-Authors New Study: Shows Breastfeeding Interventions Are Associated With Decreased Rates of Early Infant Deaths

A new study published in the Journal of Pediatrics shows increased rates of implementation of hospital-based breastfeeding initiatives are associated with decreased rates of infant deaths in the first six days after birth, dispelling speculation that such practices might increase infant death. Lori Feldman-Winter, MD, MPH, a member of the staff at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University Health Care and professor of pediatrics at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, was a co-author of the study. Cooper University Health Care Receives National Recognition for Meritorious Outcomes in Surgical Care From the American College of Surgeons

Cooper Kicks-Off Holiday Season with Turkey Donations to Benefit Camden Residents

1,000 Turkeys Were Distributed Through Network of Community Organizations

On Saturday, November 23, 2019, Cooper University Health Care kicked-off the holiday season by donating 1,000 turkeys to community groups, faith-based organizations, and the South Jersey Food Bank to benefit Camden residents. The turkeys were provided to a wide network of community groups for distribution to residents in need in time for Thanksgiving. Cooper Veteran Phil Kenerley Honored With Camden County Medal

On Thursday, November 7, 2019, Cooper Senior Security Officer Phil Kenerley was recognized by the Freeholders of Camden County during the 18th Annual Veterans Medal Award Ceremony for his service to our country. In addition to Phil, 18 other veterans from the Army, Navy, and Air Force were recognized during the ceremony, which was attended by family and friends.

Noted National Expert Discusses How “Storytelling” Project Impacted Veterans, Changed VA Healthcare

National “storytelling” expert Thor Ringler, MFA, MS, provided an inspiring Veterans Day program for physicians, medical students, and other health care providers. Ringler has run the My Life, My Story program at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, since 2013. In that time the program has recorded life stories of more than 2,000 veterans — and placed the short biographies in each vets’ electronic medical record. Read more.
