The Cooper Foundation has appointed Lisa Morina, a business executive with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, government, and community outreach, as vice president of advancement for corporate relations. Morina joins Cooper from Jefferson Health where she served as a key member of the executive team, most recently as vice president of government and external relations.

Morina’s appointment is part of a planned expansion of the leadership team of The Cooper Foundation to support the growth of Cooper University Health Care and to meet the needs of the communities it serves. Read more.

Lois Gabin-Legato, JD, an experienced philanthropic professional in the Philadelphia region, recently joined The Cooper Foundation as vice president of advancement for major gifts and planned giving.

Gabin-Legato comes to Cooper from the Philadelphia Foundation where she served as vice president of institutional advancement and chief advancement officer since 2016. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care has achieved the highly prestigious international Baby-Friendly designation after a rigorous review process conducted by Baby-Friendly USA, the organization responsible for bestowing this certification in the United States.

This distinguished honor demonstrates that Cooper is adhering to the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. These standards are built on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for optimal infant feeding support in the precious first days of a newborn’s life. Cooper University Health Care’s credit rating from Moody’s Investors Service was upgraded today to A3, its highest rating ever. This follows Cooper’s recent upgrade to “A-“ from S&P Global Ratings (S&P) in November.

(CAMDEN, NJ) Cooper University Health Care Emergency Medicine doctor Joshua Rempell, MD, MPH, recently returned from a 14-day trip to Ukraine as part of an educational mission to provide trauma and mass casualty training courses.

The trip was organized by the International Medical Corps, an organization that delivers emergency medical and related services to those affected by conflict, disaster and disease and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, an academic and research center for humanitarian crises. Read more.

On December 9, 39 members and friends of the military community of Cooper University Health Care visited the site of Washington’s Crossing of the Delaware River on a learning trip sponsored by the Section of Military, Diplomatic and Field Surgical Affairs (MILDAF) of the Division of Trauma at Cooper University Health Care.

The purpose of the trip was to gain an appreciation of the significance of the events of the American Revolutionary War on Christmas night in 1776, analyze some of the medical conditions that resulted, and discuss how the military medical community would respond today. Read more.

A team of physicians from Cooper University Health Care spent a week in Tanzania in November to provide advanced medical education at Muhimbili Hospital in Dar Es Salaam. Muhimbili Hospital is the largest hospital in Tanzania, with 2,000 beds serving a city with a population of more than 4.3 million people. Tanzania, located in Eastern Africa bordering on the Indian Ocean, has more than 60 million people and is one of the most impoverished countries in the world. Read more.

(CAMDEN, NJ) — The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP^®) has recognized Cooper University Health Care as one of only 78 ACS NSQIP-participating hospitals that have achieved meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care in 2021.

The ACS NSQIP recognition program commends a select group of hospitals for achieving a meritorious composite score in either an “All Cases” category or a category that includes only “High Risk” cases. Read more.
