Avon Breast Health Outreach Program Awards Grant to MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper

The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program has awarded a $37,000 one-year grant to MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper’s Camden County Cancer Screening Project (CCCSP) to increase awareness of the life-saving benefits of early detection of breast cancer. It is the tenth year that the program has received funding from the Avon Foundation for Women to support its work on this important health issue, and in recognition of the program’s excellence. Expecting mothers who complete an online education program in New Jersey will get a free baby box. Cooper University Healthcare hospital helped develop the Baby Box University syllabus for New Jersey parents and is hosting a special Baby Box launch event today at Roberts Pavilion Lobby.

Cooper University Health Care Delivers on Promise to Improve EMS Services to City of Camden

In 2016, Cooper EMS responded to nearly 10 percent more calls and responded within eight-minutes on more than 90 percent of ALS calls meeting a national benchmark. In addition, Cooper EMS provided additional community outreach, education, and training services to local residents and emergency professionals.

Patient Guidance Regarding Nontuberculous Mycobacterium Infections Associated With Heater-Cooler Devices

Cooper University Health Care is notifying patients who have had open-heart surgery about a potential infection risk related to this surgery.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating reports that a device used to heat and cool the blood during surgery has been linked to a rare bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium chimaera, a type of bacteria known as nontuberculous mycobacterium (NTM).   Read more.

Cooper Receives Award From NJ Sharing Network for Organ Transplant Awareness Efforts

Cooper University Health Care was among a select group of hospitals nationwide recognized for raising organ and tissue donation awareness in a national campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The campaign has added 400,000 registered organ and tissue donors since 2011.

Cooper conducted awareness and registry campaigns to educate staff, patients, visitors, and community members about the critical need for organ and tissue donors and, by doing so, increased the number of potential donors. Read more.

Cooper Honors PCU Nurse with DAISY Award

(Camden, NJ)  — Cooper University Health Care recently recognized Caitlin Oshea, RN, of Garnet Valley, Delaware County, Pennsylvania with the DAISY Award for providing exceptional nursing care.

Caitlin, a nurse on Cooper’s Progressive Care Unit, was nominated by the wife of a patient who described her as very caring, empathetic, and supportive. “Caitlin showed extraordinary compassion,” the patient’s wife said. “I felt good knowing she was taking care of him, she went above and beyond to give him his dignity back.” Read more.

Sicklerville Urgent Care to Transition to Surgical Specialties Practice

For two years, Cooper Urgent Care in Sicklerville has been providing emergent health care for the surrounding community.

We are pleased to announce that the Sicklerville Urgent Care location will be transitioning to a Surgical Specialties practice in February 2017 and is closing as an Urgent Care Center at the end of the business day on Friday, December 30, 2016.

Cooper Urgent Care Centers in Cherry Hill and Audubon continue to provide excellent service and a new center is scheduled to open in 2017 at 20 South Black Horse Pike in Runnemede. Read more.
