Studies show whole-blood transfusion offers greater benefits for treating hemorrhagic shock

Cooper University Health Care, South Jersey’s only Level I Trauma Center, is the third academic tertiary care health system in the United States to offer whole blood transfusions for trauma patients who present with massive bleeding and hemorrhagic shock. Cooper University Health Care’s Level 1 Trauma Center Receives Verification From the American College of Surgeons

Cooper University Health Care has received reverification as a Level I Trauma Center and a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Cooper, one of only three state-designated Level I trauma centers, is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year,  and has been serving South Jersey as the state-designated Level I trauma center for 35 years. Cooper Trauma Surgeon on Good Day Philadelphia to Talk About “Stop the Bleed”

Dr. Joshua P. Hazelton, Attending Surgeon with the Cooper Trauma Center, appeared on FOX 29’s Good Day Philadelphia program this morning to talk about “Stop the Bleed.”

“The first thing you want to do is direct pressure to the wound with gloves if you have gloves, of course, for safety. The next thing you want to do is get a tourniquet… what we want to do is get the tourniquet above the wound, between the wound and the heart. Read more.

Cooper Offers Free “Stop the Bleed” Training to Organizations and Groups

Would you know how to “Stop the Bleed” if your loved one had a deep laceration causing severe bleeding?

Cooper University Health Care’s EMS Outreach coordinators, in collaboration with the Cooper Trauma Department, will offer free Stop the Bleed training to community organizations, businesses, or agencies as part of a national initiative aimed at putting knowledge gained by first responders and the military into the hands of the public to help save lives during times of disaster. Cooper Trauma Center Provides $10,000 for Purchase of Tourniquets For Camden County Police Department as Part of “Stop the Bleed” Education and Training

The Trauma Center at Cooper University Health Care recently purchased $10,000 worth of tourniquets which will be distributed to all officers in the Camden County Police Department in conjunction with specialized bleeding control training they received from Cooper’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team.

Since it began operation in January 2016, Cooper EMS has been offering a Bleeding Control for the Injured (B-Con) course for police, fire, and school personnel as part of its community outreach efforts.  Read more.

Santa Claus Has a New Sleigh, Will Arrive Via Helicopter To Visit Sick Children at Cooper University Health Care

Santa Claus will arrive via helicopter to visit pediatric patients and distribute gifts in a pre-Christmas visit to Cooper University Health Care in Camden. While the reindeer rest up for their big night on Christmas Eve, the pilots and staff of the hospital’s air medical transport helicopter, Cooper 1, will give Santa a lift as he stops by to visit hospitalized children.

Distracted driving, such as texting on a cell phone while behind the wheel of a car, can change a life in a split second. Consequences can be devastating. Nobody knows that more than Alyssa Lesher, 16, of Mt. Laurel, who, in July 2012, was severely injured in a car accident involving a negligent driver and spent more than two weeks in Cooper’s Trauma Intensive Care Unit (TICU).
