Work/Mentor Experiences Sought for Summer Student Program

As part of our commitment to the Camden community, Cooper is happy to announce the six-week summer youth employment and mentoring program for Camden high school students this year. The program will begin on Monday, July 8, and last until Friday, August 16. Students will work five days a week for a total of 20 hours per week in different departments located on the Camden Campus. The students must be 16 to 18 years old and Camden residents currently enrolled in high school to participate in this year’s program. Participating departments will NOT be responsible for the cost to pay each of the students, as that cost will be covered through an existing budget item.

The summer program is designed to expose students to career opportunities at the hospital, allow them to gain valuable work experience and receive career mentoring by working with various departments on the Camden Campus. In addition, the students will have the opportunity to hear from some of our Cooper colleagues about careers in health care through four career exposure panels to be held once a week, beginning the week of July 15.

Many departments have participated in past years and we hope you are able to commit to the program again this year. We are currently working with several high schools and Camden workforce development organizations in the city to identify the participating students. We would like to do our best to pair students with participating departments based on their career interests. If you have not participated before, we ask that you consider opportunities for students to work with your team this summer. The program can only be successful and provide the students the opportunity to gain experience, learn about careers in health care and be part of the Cooper team with your support.

Please contact Brian Bauerle at 856.963-6705 or bauerle-brian@cooperhealth.edu with questions and to provide him with the following information if you are interested in participating this summer: department name, a contact name and information the point of contact for your department, the number of students you would like to request and a sentence or two on what the students would be doing with you this summer.
