Code Blue Review

This four-hour course is designed to prepare the registered nurse for a Rapid Response, Code Blue, and other medical crisis situations. The course focuses on a team approach and is geared toward the nursing professional. The first portion of the course reviews how to perform a daily Code Cart check, a review of the full contents of the Code Cart; primary and secondary ABCD assessment utilizing excellent AHA, BLS and/or ACLS when appropriate; the roles of the Code Team members; and proper documentation utilizing the RRT/Code Narrator. The second portion of the course is conducted in the simulation lab. Hands-on Crisis/Code situations are created using SimMan. This hands-on portion of the course allows a learning environment for the nurse to interact utilizing a team approach in a safe environment, with debriefing and coaching, in preparation for real-life scenarios. The SimLab experience is a remarkable educational experience for the adult professional to learn and become competent in crisis management.
