Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Each year, one in every four deaths in the United States is the result of heart disease. Although the statistics sound dire, efforts are being made to help the people of South Jersey to beat the odds against heart disease.

“This is what we live for” is the newest Cardiac Partners at Cooper and Inspira campaign to let the community know that our team is committed to their well-being.

“The Cardiac Partners team provides the most advanced cardiac care for South Jersey residents,” says Phillip A. Koren, MD, FACC, FSCAI, Medical Director, Cooper Heart Institute, and partner member of Cardiac Partners at Cooper and Inspira. “By combining Cooper’s and Inspira’s award-winning providers along with the large geographic footprint, including four hospitals and 12 outpatient offices, patients can access care when and where they need it,” he explains.

Advanced Heart Care in South Jersey

The Structural Heart Program has earned a regional reputation for excellent outcomes for patients who have conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, and congenital heart disease. This program offers devices such as the WATCHMAN and MitraClip, which help to prevent complications of atrial fibrillation or irregular heartbeat that often lead to stroke.

“By participating in clinical trials from the very beginning— and having excellent outcomes—Cardiac Partners has become the only program in the region to offer many of these therapies,” says Sajjad A. Sabir, MD, Director of the Cooper Structural Heart Program, clinical cardiologist, and a Cardiac Partners at Cooper and Inspira provider. “The formation of Cardiac Partners in 2017 made these services available to even more people in South Jersey,” he continues.

For patients who experience emergency cardiac events or those who require preventive surgery, Cooper has superior outcomes and has received a three-star STS rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for coronary artery bypass graft surgery, or CABG, which ranks Cooper among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for that procedure.

Women Caring for Women

The Women’s Heart Program at Cardiac Partners has more female cardiologists than any other health care system in South Jersey.

“Our female cardiologists have a unique set of skills to address female cardiac issues, including diabetes, cancer, high-risk pregnancy, and obesity,” says Kathleen M. Heintz, DO, FACC, clinical cardiologist, and a Cardiac Partners at Cooper and Inspira provider.

“Looking at a patient’s risk factors and preventing heart disease or a major heart event from happening is the ultimate goal.”

Cardiac Rehabilitation to Improve Your Life

Cardiac Partners also offers a multi-tiered approach to prevention and recovery with the Cardiac Rehabilitation program. This program is overseen by our team of cardiovascular specialists, who work with each patient to develop an individualized rehabilitation plan that includes exercise, nutrition counseling, education, and occupational therapy. This program leads to decreased risk of another cardiac event, improved heart and respiratory function, and more strength to perform day-to-day activities.

Our patients enjoy quicker recovery and the confidence that they can regain control of their lives sooner. It’s why we work together to offer our patients our respective expertise. This is what we live for.
