Two weeks ago, 2-year-old Dominick Garcia was critically injured after falling from a second-story window. Today, he is expected to make a full recovery thanks to Cooper Air Two helicopter service and Cooper University Hospital.
Rick Hong, MD, Head, Division of EMS/Disaster Medicine, said the availability of a medical helicopter at the airport trimmed at least 20 minutes off the time it took to get Dominick to Cooper’s Level 1 Trauma Center. Cooper and Atlantic Health in Morristown teamed up for the initiative to bring a medical helicopter to an area that had been “underserved” Hong said.
“In Dominick’s case, I think it went a long way to actually saving his life,” said Shonola S. DaSilva, MD, Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Cooper, who treated the boy during his stay at Cooper.
