Jeffrey C. Brenner, MD, Medical Director of the Urban Health Institute at Cooper University Health Care and Executive Director of the Camden Coalition, has been elected to the prestigious Institute of Medicine (IOM). The IOM announced the names of 70 new members and 10 foreign associates during its 43rd annual meeting. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. Today, Cooper University Heath Care and George E. Norcross, III, Cooper’s chairman, were given the prestigious “Seven Seals Award” by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Employer Support for National Guard and Reserve (ESGR) in recognition of Cooper’s “Veterans VIP Priority Program.” The award was presented by ESGR state chair Don Tretola at an event at Cooper’s Roberts Pavilion.

Cooper University Health Care and Kennedy Health System are partnering to expand cardiac services in Gloucester County with the opening of a new Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Kennedy University Hospital in Washington Township. A ribbon-cutting event was held on November 3, 2014.

For 20 Years, Chrome Riders Have Been Roaring Into Camden to Cheer at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper

ChromeridersmallOn Saturday, October 25, 2014, nearly 100 members and friends of the Chrome Riders Riding Club roared Camden to bring cheer to children hospitalized at the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. They brought with them a trailer full of toys, games, gift cards and other items. This was the 20th year that the Chrome Riders sponsored the Toy Run.

“Our staff and patients really look forward to this event, but this year is extra special,” said Robyn Harvey, RN, Executive Director of the Women’s and Children’s Institute and the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. Read more.

On Monday, September 22, 2014, representatives from Helen’s Angels presented physicians and staff from MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and the Cooper Foundation with a $10,000 check to support the Patient in Need Fund.

Helen’s Angels, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to the support of individuals and their families in the Greater Philadelphia area who have been diagnosed with, impacted by or recovering from breast cancer. Read more.

United Airlines Makes Special Delivery to Pediatric Patients at Cooper

On Tuesday, September 16, 2014, United Airlines employees delivered some very special cargo to young patients at the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. Each child on the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care units received a new fuzzy friend named “Ben Flyin” as part of United’s community outreach efforts.

Cooper University Hospital Opens Two New Patient Floors in the Pavilion

Cooper University Hospital celebrated the opening of two new floors in the Roberts Pavilion, each with 30 private patient rooms. The two floors are designed to serve specific patient populations with Pavilion 8 serving a growing advanced-care surgery patient population and Pavilion 9 serving the Cooper Heart Institute for hospitalized heart patients.

Cooper’s strategy over the past few years has been to build strong patient-centered institutes for tertiary care for the complex health care needs of surgery, trauma, cancer and cardiac patients. Read more.

AmeriHealth New Jersey and Cooper University Health Care announced they have finalized their agreement, which is transforming the delivery of health care in New Jersey. Under the transaction, Cooper University Health Care receives 20 percent minority interest in AmeriHealth New Jersey. The venture, announced last April, is unprecedented between a health insurer and hospital system in the state.
