More Than 4,000 Participants “Run the Bridge” to Support Local School for the Disabled

More than a record 4,000 runners and walkers participated in this year's Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge, presented by AmeriHealth New Jersey. The 10K race – the largest in the tri-state area – benefits the Larc School, which serves individuals with moderate to severe disabilities throughout South Jersey. All proceeds from today’s race, estimated to be a record $400,000, go directly to the Larc School.

H1N1 Flu Shots to be Given to Priority Groups in Burlington County Over Three Fridays in November

The Burlington County Health Department in Westampton will hold H1N1 flu shot clinics to vaccinate priority groups on three consecutive Fridays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on November 6, 13 and 20, 2009 at their offices (15 Pioneer Boulevard, Westampton, New Jersey 08060).

Cooper Named One of Nation’s Top Hospitals Fifth Year in a Row

For the fifth straight year, Cooper University Hospital has received a Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation (NRC). The 2009/2010 award identifies hospitals which healthcare consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in the country. Each year, the National Research Corporation surveys 250,000 homes nationally to identify the nation’s top hospitals. The award is based on the regional consumer responses in four categories: best doctors, best nurses, best image and reputation and best overall quality of care.

Cooper Appoints New Division Head of Urology

Cooper University Hospital has named Allen D. Seftel, M.D., its Head of the Division of Urology. “Dr. Seftel joins Cooper University Hospital with vast experience in men’s health and at Cooper will work to enhance the men’s health services already being offered,” said Carolyn E. Bekes, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Cooper. “He brings with him significant clinical expertise as well as skill and experience as an educator. Dr. Seftel is also an accomplished and innovative researcher and we’re proud that he will be continuing his important work at Cooper.”

Coalition Announces Launch of Citywide Health Information Exchange

The Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers today announced the launch of the Camden Health Information Exchange (HIE), an electronic medical records interface that will allow Camden’s health care providers to access patient data from various sources. The Coalition makes this announcement in celebration of New Jersey Minority & Multicultural Health Month. The HIE epitomizes this year’s theme, “Take Control of your Health: Managing Chronic Diseases”, as the tool will allow providers to deliver improved care to their sickest patients.

Cooper Experts to Answer Calls on Eyewitness News This Thursday

A team of doctors and nurses from Cooper University Hospital will travel to the CBS3 studios in Philadelphia on Thursday, October 1, to participate in a live H1N1 Phone Bank during Eyewitness News (4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.). During the broadcast, viewers will be invited to call or email their questions and/or concerns about H1N1. The team expects a range of questions, including symptoms and treatments of H1N1, who’s at risk and who should receive the vaccine, and what to do if you or a family member becomes ill.

Cooper Celebrates the Grand Opening of The Margaret L. Isaacs Chapel

On Tuesday, September 15, 2009, Cooper University Hospital celebrated the grand opening of The Margaret L. Isaacs Chapel located off the main lobby of Cooper’s new patient Pavilion. The Chapel is dedicated in memory of Margaret L. Isaacs by her husband, the late Harry H. Isaacs, Sr., and son, Harry H. Isaacs, Jr. Mrs. Isaacs was a long-time patient of Edward D. Viner, M.D., Chairman of the Cooper Foundation.

Cooper University Hospital and the Cooper Cancer Institute are proud to announce that Evelyn Robles-Rodriguez, RN, MSN, APN-C, AOCN, Advanced Practice Nurse for the Division of Hematology/Medical Oncology and Director of the Oncology Outreach Programs, has been selected by the American Cancer Society (ACS) – South/Central New Jersey Chapter as the honoree at their upcoming Celebration of Hope event.

Local Law Firm Donates Video Game Systems to Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper

On Monday, August 17, 2009, The Ferrara Law Firm donated two Nintendo Wii game systems to the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University Hospital. This was sponsored by a consumer safety community organization called InjuryBoard. InjuryBoard consists of 53 law firms from 25 states that banded together to donate more than 60 Nintendo Wii gaming systems over the summer. The gaming systems went to rehabilitation centers, nursing homes and hospitals across the U.S. The goal was to inspire attorneys to give back to their community.

Cooper University Hospital Named Primary Research Site for First and Only Global Clinical Trial for Endovascular Treatment of Type B Aortic Dissection

Cooper University Hospital will take part in a clinical trial of the first medical device designed to specifically treat aortic dissections, an often-fatal condition that affects tens of thousands in the U.S. and claimed the life of actor John Ritter. Recognized as a preferred treatment center for the minimally invasive treatment of aortic diseases, Cooper was approved by the hospital’s institutional review board (IRB) for its involvement in the study. This approval follows the recent appointment of the trial’s global principal investigator, Joseph V. Lombardi, M.D., FACS, as chief of vascular and endovascular surgery at Cooper and associate professor of surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey.
