On August 4, 2022, MRI Tech Mike Beale was honored by executive leaders at Cooper University Health Care with the Cooper Heroism Award for his heroic actions after witnessing an accident on his way to work last April. Mike notice the man on the side of the road and stopped and performed CPR until police and emergency responders arrived. Following his heroic actions he reported to work for his overnight shift as normal. Read more.
Today, Cooper University Health Care announced that its new Ripa Center for Women’s Health and Wellness location at 100 Grove Street in Haddonfield is open.
Modeled on Cooper’s successful Ripa Center in Voorhees, the new center will offer primary care, gynecology, endocrine, cardiology, gastroenterology, and breast surgery (oncology) services geared especially for women.
“Fifteen years ago, Cooper introduced the Ripa Center for Women’s Health and Wellness as a new model of care designed by women physicians and advanced care providers for women and we are happy to open the newest Ripa Center in Haddonfield to serve many more women for years to come,” said George E. The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) has asked Cooper University Health Care to coordinate monkeypox vaccinations for South Jersey. NJDOH will be supplying a limited amount of the monkeypox vaccine to a few hospitals across the state. Cooper, which coordinated the state’s COVID-19 response in southern New Jersey, will again play this role for monkeypox.
Because vaccine supply is very limited, vaccinations will be available only to New Jersey residents meeting specific NJDOH requirements, including those with a known or suspected exposure to monkeypox or to those who are at high risk for having been exposed to monkeypox in the past 14 days. This year’s donations to benefit patients with cancer, those managing chronic health conditions
As part of the Subaru Loves to Care program, representatives from Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) visited Cooper University Health Care recently to announce a number of donations to benefits Camden-based patients being treated at Cooper.
Subaru presented a check for $30,000 to purchase durable medical equipment – including blood pressure cuffs, glucometers, and scales – to help patients manage chronic health conditions at home and help prevent the need for emergency department visits or hospitalizations. Read more.
Cooper University Health Care was for the second year in a row recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-2023 Best Hospitals annual survey as a top regional hospital and top hospital in southern New Jersey. Cooper was also rated as a high-performing hospital nationally in eight procedures/conditions: Colon cancer surgery, heart failure, aortic valve surgery, heart attack, diabetes care, kidney failure treatment, stroke, and COPD treatment. Approximately 200 golfers attended the Cooper Foundation’s 2nd Annual Cooper Cup Golf Outing held on June 27th at Ramblewood Country Club in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. The sold-out event raised more than $265,000 to support Cooper University Health Care’s mission to serve, to heal, to educate.

Wissam Abouzgheib, MD, chief of pulmonary medicine at Cooper University Health Care, is participating in a clinical study investigating a new device treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with chronic bronchitis. Cooper is the 20th site nationally participating in the study.
COPD is a long-term, progressive, irreversible lung disease that, over time, makes it difficult to breathe. Chronic bronchitis (CB), the largest subset of COPD, is characterized by a chronic productive cough. Read more.

On June 9, the Interventional Pulmonary team at Cooper University Health Care performed its first three cases using the Ion Endoluminal System by Intuitive Surgical, a new minimally invasive platform that allows physicians to biopsy hard-to-reach lung tumors, potentially resulting in the earlier diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Cooper is the first health system in southern New Jersey to use this new system, which has advanced maneuverability and navigation through the narrow airways of the lung. Read more.
