Health Literacy Month

During Health Literacy Month, we recognize the importance of making health information easy to understand for patients and families. All Cooper team members are encouraged to educate and work with one another to achieve this objective, and to take advantage of the opportunity to become a Health Literacy Champion.

To become a champion (and win prizes!) you must complete the health literacy course on the Cooper Learning Network (CLN) – type “health literacy” in the search box to find the course – and post an example of how you practice health literacy on Pulse+. For instance, you could post: “I used the teach-back method today with a parent of our pediatric patient to ensure he understood how the insulin pump works for his son by having him demonstrate the steps back to me.”

The Population Health team will contact any Cooper team member who completes the CLN course and posts on Pulse+ with details regarding their prize.

We encourage all Cooper team members to learn more about how promoting health literacy can improve the patient experience and result in better patient outcomes.
