Cooper University Health Care is proud to announce that it has received 2018 Star Performer recognition from the American Orthopaedic Association’s (AOA) Own the Bone® program. Cooper is one of approximately 230 health care institutions nationwide that have joined Own the Bone and taken initiatives to ensure their osteoporotic fracture patients receive the highest level of treatment and care.

Pediatricians Join Staff at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper

Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University Health Care recently appointed David G. Bruner, MD, FAAP, and Jillian Gormley, DO, to the staff.

Previously, Dr. Bruner was a general pediatrician at AdvoCare Laurel Pediatrics, Sewell, NJ. Dr. Bruner completed his residency in pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children where he was awarded the Robert Baird award for excellence in teaching, a spirit of inquiry, and compassion for patients and their families. Cooper University Health Care’s Level 1 Trauma Center Receives Verification From the American College of Surgeons

Cooper University Health Care has received reverification as a Level I Trauma Center and a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Cooper, one of only three state-designated Level I trauma centers, is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year,  and has been serving South Jersey as the state-designated Level I trauma center for 35 years. Congratulations to the following recipients of the Cooper Foundation‘s 2017 Cancer Research Grants:

Andres Ferber, MD Hematologic Malignancy Research, funded by the DiFlorio family, to Kamyar Nader, MD, “Malignant Hematology Database at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper”. Dr. Nadar will construct a database of malignant hematological conditions, such as Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non Hodgkin’s lymphomas, multiple myeloma, leukemia, myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative disorders. Cooper University Health Care recently recognized Meghann Thornton, RN, of Medford Lakes  with the DAISY Award for providing exceptional nursing care. Meghann works as a nurse in Cooper’s Progressive Care Unit.

The DAISY Award, established by The DAISY Foundation, is an international program that celebrates the extraordinary care given by nurses every day. It is presented in collaboration with the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Read more.

Event Attended by Governor Christie, several former governors and other officials

Governor Chris Christie, five former governors, numerous elected officials and nearly 30 members of the Sheridan family joined Cooper University Health Care leaders today for the unveiling ceremony of Sheridan Pavilion at Three Cooper Plaza in honor of the former president and CEO of the health care system.  Mr. Sheridan joined Cooper in 2005 and served as president and CEO of The Cooper Health System from 2008 until his and his wife’s death in 2014.
