Approximately 200 golfers attended the Cooper Foundation’s 2nd Annual Cooper Cup Golf Outing held on June 27th at Ramblewood Country Club in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. The sold-out event raised more than $265,000 to support Cooper University Health Care’s mission to serve, to heal, to educate.

Wissam Abouzgheib, MD, chief of pulmonary medicine at Cooper University Health Care, is participating in a clinical study investigating a new device treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with chronic bronchitis. Cooper is the 20th site nationally participating in the study.
COPD is a long-term, progressive, irreversible lung disease that, over time, makes it difficult to breathe. Chronic bronchitis (CB), the largest subset of COPD, is characterized by a chronic productive cough. Read more.

On June 9, the Interventional Pulmonary team at Cooper University Health Care performed its first three cases using the Ion Endoluminal System by Intuitive Surgical, a new minimally invasive platform that allows physicians to biopsy hard-to-reach lung tumors, potentially resulting in the earlier diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Cooper is the first health system in southern New Jersey to use this new system, which has advanced maneuverability and navigation through the narrow airways of the lung. Read more.
More than 200 guests attended The Cooper Foundation’s 12th annual Pink Roses Teal Magnolias celebration of cancer survivorship held on June 5. Held on National Cancer Survivors Day – a day to honor cancer survivors, no matter where they are in their journey – the event provided inspiration while raising funds for programs and services at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. (CAMDEN, NJ) Three Cooper EMS team members were honored by CamCare Health Corporation at a community event May 18 that paid tribute to Camden’s first responders during National EMS Week, May 15-21. Congratulations to EMS Supervisor Robert Attianese; Operations Manager and Chief Steven Hare, and EMT Barry Hunter who received citations from the Camden Board of Directors and Congressman Donald Norcross for outstanding service. On April 23, 2022, Cooper Center for Healing and Addiction Medicine Fellowship team members participated in the Seeds of Hope Ministries Run for a Life in Camden. Together with other community members, the team covered the Wiggins Waterfront Park course to honor those lost, and to raise awareness for people struggling with substance dependence and substance use disorder.

Ritz, who works in Cooper’s Trauma Surgical ICU, also received the Award for Excellence in Trauma Nursing as part of Cooper’s Annual Nursing Excellence Awards presented during National Nurses’ Week (May 6-12). Cooper University Health Care is grateful once again to the The Lauren Rose Albert Foundation/ Mothers Matter Program for bringing cheer to mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers of patients undergoing treatment at Cooper with a special delivery of gift baskets on Friday, May 6 — just in time for Mother’s Day.
Since 2001, the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation has reached out to mothers-in-need by donating thousands of gift baskets overflowing with personal health and beauty care products to numerous health care facilities, women’s shelters and crisis programs, child care centers, and facilities such as Ronald McDonald House and the Memorial Veterans Home during the week of Mother’s Day.
