Cooper Nurse of the Year/Team of the Year Named

Cooper University Health Care has named Elizabeth “Lisa” Moriarty, MSN, RN, of Washington Township, NJ, the 2021 Nurse of the Year. Moriarty, a medical surgical nurse on Cooper’s Pavilion 7 unit, also received the Selma and Martin Hirsch Award for Excellence in Medical Surgical Nursing as part of Cooper’s Annual Nursing Excellence Awards presented during National Nurses’ Week (May 6-12). Cooper University Health Care has teamed up with the Philadelphia 76ers to create a video PSA to raise awareness of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We are excited to work with the 76ers, our Camden neighbor, to educate everyone on both the safety and benefits of receiving the vaccine,” said Kevin O’Dowd, JD, co-CEO of Cooper. “We are grateful to the players, coaches, and the entire Sixers organization for their support of Cooper and their commitment to our vaccine education efforts.” Read more.

(CAMDEN, NJ)  — Cooper University Health Care is expanding the hours at the COVID-19 Vaccination and Education Center at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center in East Camden.

COVID-19 vaccinations at the site are available Mondays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. Read more.

Today, Cooper will join with other organizations worldwide in celebrating Earth Day. The theme for this year’s Earth Day – “Restore Our Earth” – focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking to help restore the world’s ecosystems.

Since its inception, Cooper’s Green Team has worked to identify and put into action a number of initiatives to ensure that Cooper reduces waste, decreases energy usage, and educates our team members about how to be successful environmental stewards. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care has partnered with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) to deploy Community Health Workers in Camden as part of an innovative program – Horizon Neighbors in Health – that is improving health, reducing inpatient hospital stays and emergency department visits, and increasing behavioral and specialty care visits by addressing social barriers to health. Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 18 – 24, 2021, is a time to recognize laboratorians who perform millions of diagnostic test procedures in hospitals and clinical laboratories. Did you know that 70% of medical decisions are based on laboratory results? As critical members of the health care team, laboratorians work behind the scenes to verify the accuracy of test results, and to provide test results in a timely manner to health care providers who rely on these results to provide outstanding patient care.
