Nurse on Mother Infant Unit Named Nurse of the Year

(CAMDEN, NJ) — Cooper University Health Care has named Kelly Campbell, BSN, RN, of Mullica Hill, NJ, as the recipient of the William A. Schwartz, Jr. Nurse of the Year Award. Campbell, who works in Cooper’s Mother Infant Unit, also received The Charlotte Tobiason Memorial Award for Excellence in Obstetrical Nursing as part of Cooper’s Annual Nursing Excellence Awards presented during National Nurses Week (May 6 to 12). National CRNA Week is an annual celebration of our nation’s more than 57,000 certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). This year’s theme is “CRNAs: The Original Anesthesia Experts.”  Throughout the week, CRNAs nationwide are recognized for their dedication and extraordinary work during an especially challenging time in health care.

Cooper University Health Care to Offer Monkeypox Vaccinations

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) has asked Cooper University Health Care to coordinate monkeypox vaccinations for South Jersey. NJDOH will be supplying a limited amount of the monkeypox vaccine to a few hospitals across the state. Cooper, which coordinated the state’s COVID-19 response in southern New Jersey, will again play this role for monkeypox.

Because vaccine supply is very limited, vaccinations will be available only to New Jersey residents meeting specific NJDOH requirements, including those with a known or suspected exposure to monkeypox or to those who are at high risk for having been exposed to monkeypox in the past 14 days. Cooper University Health Care was for the second year in a row recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-2023 Best Hospitals annual survey as a top regional hospital and top hospital in southern New Jersey. Approximately 200 golfers attended the Cooper Foundation’s 2nd Annual Cooper Cup Golf Outing held on June 27th at Ramblewood Country Club in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. The sold-out event raised more than $265,000 to support Cooper University Health Care’s mission to serve, to heal, to educate.

Cooper University Health Care Offers New Robotic-Assisted Minimally Invasive Option for Lung Cancer Diagnosis

On June 9, the Interventional Pulmonary team at Cooper University Health Care performed its first three cases using the Ion Endoluminal System by Intuitive Surgical, a new minimally invasive platform that allows physicians to biopsy hard-to-reach lung tumors, potentially resulting in the earlier diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Cooper is the first health system in southern New Jersey to use this new system, which has advanced maneuverability and navigation through the narrow airways of the lung. Read more.

More than 200 guests attended The Cooper Foundation’s 12th annual Pink Roses Teal Magnolias celebration of cancer survivorship held on June 5. Held on National Cancer Survivors Day – a day to honor cancer survivors, no matter where they are in their journey – the event provided inspiration while raising funds for programs and services at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. On April 23, 2022, Cooper Center for Healing and Addiction Medicine Fellowship team members participated in the Seeds of Hope Ministries Run for a Life in Camden. Together with other community members, the team covered the Wiggins Waterfront Park course to honor those lost, and to raise awareness for people struggling with substance dependence and substance use disorder.
