MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper Holds Educational Dense Breast Clinic

This week, the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper’s breast health team held “Dense Breast and Abnormal Breast Imaging,” an opportunity for women to learn more about the management of abnormalities found on mammograms and how having dense breasts can affect their risk for breast cancer. Twenty-six women attended this interactive program, which was presented by Beth Ann Quattrocchi, APN, Pauline Germaine, DO, and Vivian Bea, MD. First Year Medical Students Spend “Week on the Wards” at Cooper

As part of their training, first-year medical students at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University are taking part in a “Week on the Wards” course directed by Meena Khandelwal, MD, FACOG, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at CMSRU and Director of Grand Rounds Ob/GYN at Cooper.

For two weeks beginning October 9, the students are rotating throughout different units at Cooper University Hospital to observe hospital operations first-hand. Read more.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness for detection, treatment, education, and research of breast cancer, as well as programs to support those affected by this disease.

This month, Dr. Anthony Dragun, Chairman and Chief of the Department of Radiation Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, is participating in the Real Men Wear Pink initiative of the American Cancer Society. Read more.

Cooper Nurse Joins Relief Efforts in Puerto Rico

When Cooper University Health Care nurse Joan Davis, RN, saw a request for volunteers to help in disaster relief in Puerto Rico, she knew in her heart she had to answer the call.  It was the weekend of September 30 that Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE – the union that presents Cooper’s nurses) put out a notice that they were participating with and AFL/CIO-sponsored effort to bring supplies and volunteers to the ravaged island nation. Cooper Delivers Supplies to Mt Holly Armory for Volunteers Helping in Puerto Rico

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, staff from Cooper University Health Care delivered 350 blankets and pillows for volunteers who are in Puerto Rico to assist with emergency management and aid in rebuilding in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. This effort was part of a collaboration of New Jersey State AFL-CIO’s affiliated unions in construction, transportation, and healthcare.

The Cooper Foundation Puerto Rico Fund has been established to collect donations to support the people of Puerto Rico, who have suffered devastating losses after being hit by Hurricane Maria. Read more.

Cooper Community Health Raise Awareness For First Responder Health at Berlin Fire Prevention Night

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, Mike Bortnowski and Lorraine Sweeney from Cooper Community Health participated in Berlin Township’s Fire Prevention Night to raise awareness for first responder cardiovascular health and cancer prevention. Statistics show that 47% of all U.S firefighter deaths occur due to cardiac deaths while 75% of all active first responders are affected by hypertension.  Also, many first responders are military veterans.  Read more.

Cooper Chairman George E. Norcross, III and family will donate private transportation costs

Cooper University Health Care is working with federal government agencies and has offered to send a team of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals as well as needed supplies to help the people of Puerto Rico, who have been devastated by Hurricane Maria. George E. Norcross, III Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cooper, and his family have offered to underwrite the estimated $100,000 cost of transportation to Puerto Rico for the Cooper medical support team and supplies.
