Celebration of Life and Remembrance on April 18

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper recently hosted a Celebration of Life and Remembrance to allow families, friends, and caregivers to pay tribute to and celebrate the lives of their loved ones. Physicians, nurses, and staff also joined in to provide support and share how special each patient was to our team at MD Anderson Cooper.

Pinwheel Garden Planted at Cooper University Hospital to Recognize Child Abuse Awareness Month

Employees and staff of Cooper University Health Care and Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper “planted” a pinwheel garden on the front lawn of the hospital in honor of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Awareness Month.  In addition, the exterior of Cooper University Hospital is aglow in blue lights throughout the month of April to bring further awareness.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S in both men and women.

While not all lung cancers are a result of smoking, people who smoke do have the greatest risk of developing lung cancer. The risk of lung cancer increases with the length of time and number of cigarettes you’ve smoked.

Lung cancer screening is now recommended for men and women 55 to 74 years old who have a significant smoking history. Read more.

Celebrating Dr. Robin Wilson-Smith’s 500th Surgery Using the da Vinci Robotic Surgery System

Congratulations to Robin Wilson-Smith, DO, FACOG, FACOOG, Attending Physician in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper on having recently performed her 500th surgery using the da Vinci® Robotic Surgery System. Dr. Wilson-Smith is currently the #1 ranked robotic surgeon among gynecologic surgeons in the Central/Southern New Jersey area.

Cooper Community Health Visits Collingswood Fire Department

Cooper Donates $10,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities

The Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper participated in the annual CBS3 “Change the Luck of a Child” fundraiser to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities by making a $10,000 donation and answering pledge calls.  These efforts helped to raise $1.2 million for the organization, which serves as a home away from home for families with a child in the hospital.

Cooper Radiology Resident Wins National Competition

Lourdes Alanis, MD, MPH, a third-year medical resident at Cooper University Health Care, won the SIR Case Competition during the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) 2017 Conference held in Washington, D.C., in March.

Dr. Alanis’ case presentation, titled “Aortocoronary Saphenous Vein Graft Pseudoaneurysm Presenting as an Anterior Mediastinal Mass,” was selected as the winner among the 70 cases submitted nationally.
