Cooper Foundation to Kick-Off Free Summer in the City Music Festival in the Park Tuesday, July 23, 2019

The Cooper Foundation of Cooper University Health Care will kick-off its free Summer in the City Music Festival in the Park on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. in Sheila L. Roberts Park with a concert by To The Max.

Surgeon Joins Cooper University Health Care’s Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center

Harish Kakkilaya, MD, FACS, FASMBS, has joined Cooper University Health Care’s Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center, a multidisciplinary program to help people with obesity or morbid obesity achieve and maintain their weight-loss goals and improve their health.

Cooper & US Special Operations Combat Medics Teach “Stop The Bleed” to NJ State Police Cadets

On Friday, June 28th, Special Operations Combat Medics (SOCM) rotating at Cooper accompanied by our own Cooper Military training team traveled to Sea Girt to train over 150 New Jersey State Police Cadets in “Stop The Bleed”. “Stop The Bleed” training is part of a national initiative aimed at putting knowledge gained by first responders and the military into the hands of the public to help save lives during times of disaster. Cooper University Health Care First Hospital Site in New Jersey to Offer New Treatment Option for Patients With Severe COPD/Emphysema

This week, Cooper University Health Care became the first hospital in New Jersey to offer bronchoscopic lung volume reduction as a treatment option for patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema.

“This is another first for Cooper, and we’re excited to offer this new treatment for patients. Previously, patients were limited to more invasive surgical options. This new treatment is also a breakthrough for patients who are not candidates for surgery and now have a shot at a better quality of life,” said Wissam Abouzgheib, MD, Head of Interventional Pulmonary at Cooper. Cooper Team Runs for a Reason

A team of Cooper’s Transitional Navigators participated in the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey 5th Annual Ronald House 5k run on June 1, 2019. RMHSNJ provides a home-away-from-home to families of seriously ill and traumatically injured children who need a place to stay where they can be close to their child while they are being treated at Cooper.

On June 1, 2019, our Cooper Team was out and about in our Moorestown community as part of Moorestown Day. Our team let people know about Cooper locations close by, including Cooper’s Digestive Health Institute in Mount Laurel, our Primary Care and Pediatric offices in Moorestown, and our Urgent Care Center in Cinnaminson. Leaders From Throughout Cooper Volunteer with Cathedral Kitchen in Camden

On June 20, 2019, leadership from Cooper’s Adult Health Institute, Urban Health Institute, Women and Children’s Institute, Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine joined together for a day of service at Cathedral Kitchen.

The group met up at the CK Café first to have lunch together. After a tour and learning about their services, they gathered to start some food prep and set up the room for dinner service. Read more.

Cooper Volunteers Support Special Olympics New Jersey

On Sunday, June 9, 2019, Cooper Physical Therapy Manager Albert J. Guarini, PT, DPT, MTC, and some of Cooper’s outpatient rehab staff volunteered at the Special Olympics New Jersey, which was held at the College of New Jersey. The team participated in the FUNfitness group for healthy athletes proving flexibility, strength, and balance screenings for the athletes competing that day. Cooper University Health Care First Hospital in South Jersey  to Launch ECMO Program to Treat Pulmonary Issues

Cooper University Health Care is the first hospital in South Jersey to offer extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy for the treatment of severe pulmonary issues and respiratory failure.

ECMO is a form of cardiopulmonary life-support, where blood is circulated outside the body by a mechanical pump so that compromised organs can rest and heal. Cooper is providing VV ECMO which is specific to patients with damaged and/or injured lungs. Read more.
