To meet the growth in the number of patients seeking surgery, Cooper University Health Care has opened four new operating rooms since May, increasing its total number of operating rooms to 23. The newest three state-of-the-art operating rooms opened last week.
Cooper University Health Care was one of the few health systems in the region to see an increase in outpatient and inpatient growth over the last few years. Read more.
On August 16, 2016, executives from Subaru of America’s corporate headquarters and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) along with representatives from Subaru of Cherry Hill delivered messages of hope and 150 specially made blankets to MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper to help encourage patients and keep them warm as they continue their fight against cancer.

Event to be held August 1-7, 2016, in Springfield, PA
Cooper University Health Care will serve as the medical services provider at the 2016 U.S. Women’s Amateur Golf Championship. This national championship, conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), will be held August 1-7, 2016, at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, PA.
Cooper emergency physicians, nurses, and physical therapists, coordinated through the Cooper Bone & Joint Institute and Cooper’s Emergency Services Department, will staff an on-site medical tent and be available to provide emergency and routine care to players and spectators as needed throughout the seven-day event. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it has selected MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper as one of nearly 200 physician group practices and 17 health insurance companies to participate in a care delivery model that supports and encourages higher quality, more coordinated cancer care. The Medicare arm of the Oncology Care Model includes more than 3,200 oncologists and will cover approximately 155,000 Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. Read more.
On June 24, 2016, Camden County Sheriff G.L. “Whip” Wilson visited Cooper University Health Care to unveil a new patrol vehicle that will be used as part of ongoing security efforts on the Cooper Health Sciences Campus.
The vehicle, a 2016 Ford Explorer, was funded by a grant from Cooper and will be used by the Sheriff’s Department officers to patrol the Health Sciences Campus which includes Cooper University Hospital, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, and MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. Read more.
Cooper University Health Care celebrated the expansion of its women’s and children’s facility in Washington Township with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 17, 2016. The additional space will provide more exam rooms, conference/event space and a more open flow for patient and visitor traffic. It will also allow for expanded evening hours, giving patients more convenient appointment options.

Cooper University Health Care recognized intensive care unit nurse Deborah Cannon, RN, of Beverly, NJ, with The DAISY Award for providing exceptional care.
Deborah was nominated by the daughter of a patient recovering from stomach cancer surgery who described her as very caring, empathetic, and supportive. “My father speaks very little English,” the patient’s daughter said. “Deb was able to communicate with him, make him laugh, and relieve a lot of his anxiety.” Read more.
Cooper has established a new Transitional Care Department to provide our patients with the right care in the right setting. The Transitional Care Department is comprised of a physician, inpatient social workers and home-health nurses, as well as its newest members: advance practice nurses and health coaches. Inpatient social work and home health will continue to focus on timely transitions for patients leaving the hospital with services including acute and subacute rehabilitation, visiting nurses, durable medical equipment, as well as many other patient-centered needs.
